CHECK IN: What’s your self-talk like these days?
I bet it’s way worse than usual. Mine sure is. Here’s just a sample of the names I’ve called myself in the past couple days.
Loser
Failure
Lazy
Bully
Selfish
Hoarder
Unfit parent
I’ve also repeatedly “reassured” myself with thoughts like, “It’s okay that your body isn’t young anymore. You were never pretty in the first place.”
WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL.
This extended staycation is messing with our minds, friends. We’re designed for connection, and this isolation we’re enduring (for the greater good! #stayhome #staysafe) is tilling fertile soil for seeds of division within our own souls.
Here’s the thing about negative self-talk:
Would you say it to literally anyone else?
How would you react if someone said it to your best friend?
Can you imagine JESUS saying it to YOU?
Of course not! That’s laughable and borderline blasphemous.
Fortunately, you have the mind of Christ (1 Cor 2:16), transformed and renewed (Rom 12:2), free from condemnation (Rom 8:1), and you have the power to cast down, imprison, and destroy any and all thoughts counter to that truth (2 Cor 10:5).
God calls you friend (John 15:15)!
beloved (Col 3:12)!
precious child (John 1:12)!
accepted (Rom 15:7)!
chosen (Eph 1:4)!
beautiful (Sol 4:7)!
and forgiven (Ps 103:10-14)!
THAT is who you are. THAT is the truth.
Listen carefully to your self-talk today as you navigate this wild, weird world, my friends.
And remember: If Jesus wouldn’t say it to you, it’s a lie, and you don’t have to put up with that shit.
