He’s got the whole world in His hands

He’s got the whole world in His hands…

Even long before I was a Christian, I was singing this song. Raffi knows what’s up.

It depicts not just a loving, caring, involved God, but a powerful, BIG God. Bigger than the little bitty baby, of course, but also bigger than the entire world.

As I’ve grown up and answered the call of Jesus, I’ve learned that He is so much bigger than even that.

If God is outside of time and space, He doesn’t just hold the world. He holds the stars, the planets, the galaxies, the universe–and beyond.

In His hands.

What can I hold in my hands?

Roughly half a bag of chocolate chips, at last measure. #parentlife

That’s how big the universe is to God. My entire country isn’t even the size of one of those chocolate chips.

And yet.

He is intimately involved in the minutae of this one life. He reminds me to fill up the gas tank, to make school lunches, to forgive.

And when I cry, the hands that hold the universe and every atom it contains hold me close. They dry my tears and lift my chin.

And so I hold His mighty, tender hand, trusting He’ll hang on to me as we adventure through this life together.

  1. Love this song. God is so from what we perceive and imagine it can blow your mind. Such a God outside of time and space yet so involved in every micro goblet of ours lives. He really does have us in his hands. Your neighbour at fmf#6

  2. Great post! I have to apologize- We have the same title, the same song, and the same message said in a different way in Five Minute Friday. I loved reading your blog. . We can look around at His beautiful creation, open God’s Word, listen to a good song on Youtube or be reminded in a thousand different ways that He has the whole world in his hands.

  3. If I’m holding a bag of chocolate chips, it won’t be for long. Ha! God takes pleasure in His creation very much the same way I take pleasure in a bag of chocolate chips. And I think in many ways God is tempering us, like chocolate, so that we can be used for something more than being snuck by the handful each time He walks by the freezer. This metaphor is getting weird. I hope you hear my heart. =)

  4. He’s got the whole world in His hands;
    that, I plainly see,
    and I hope He understands,
    better Him than me,
for I would surely drop the thing,
    and smush the mountains underfoot
while still so very proudly saying,
“Look at me, dude, I can do it!”
I’d spill out all the oceans
    right on Heaven’s floor,
    and as for folks’ emotions,
that’s what the pshrinks are for,
    ’cause I can’t make a single frown
    go turn itself right upside-down.

  5. Aren’t you glad our God is powerful enough to hold the whole world—the whole universe—in His hands, yet caring enough that our little individual lives matter to Him? –Angela, FMF #18
